Obesity is a leading preventable cause of death worldwide, with increasing rates in adults and children speaks Dr Sunanda S Rathi,Pune, researcher in obesity in school children.
Obesity is more common in children. Authorities view it as one of the most serious public health problems of the 21st century. Obesity is stigmatized in much of the modern world (particularly in the Western world), though it was seen as a symbol of wealth and fertility at other times in history and still is in some parts of the world.
The ancient Indian science of yoga is a way of life which includes changes in mental attitude, diet, and the practice of specific techniques such as yoga postures (asanas), breathing practices (pranayamas), and meditation. Increasingly, it is considered that the best way to bring about a lasting change in people who are overweight is through lifestyle modification .
The psychological stress will be reduced by yoga as per its definition in the Patanjali yoga sutras . Yoga is defined as inhibition of modification of thoughts. The mental stress is closely related to psychosomatic diseases and yoga practice is useful for reduction of stress.
Our study in school showed that Yoga will help to increase awareness on satiety and sense of overeating. There are short term studies showing the usefulness of Yoga practices for weight reduction.

Academic stress is reduced and concentration power is increasing.
While explaining yoga  philosophy in session conducted in school in Urban area 

 

stress is behind 90% of diseases. Stress is the friction between mind & intellect. Overwork & workload is not stress. Acceptance failure of situation by mind leading to reactions to stimuli is stress which gets converted in different diseases like obesity.
So for weight management, Technics has to be used not only on body but on energy & mind level also.
