Kriyas – Cleansing Technique

Dec 212016

Kriyas are cleansing practices. In that sense, we all practice Kriyas daily – bathing, washing the face, brushing the teeth, all are Kriyas. But yoga Kriyas refer to special yoga techniques meant to cleanse the inner organs, developed by the yogis. Among several Kriyas available in the yogic lore six major Kriyas called shad Kriyas are quite comprehensive.
They are:
1. Trataka for eyesight.
2. Neti for upper nasal tract (from throat to nostrils).
3. Kapalabhati for lower respiratory tract (from nostrils to lungs).
4. Dhouti for upper gastrointestinal tract (GIT) upto stomach.
5. Nauli or abdominal viscera. (Agnisara is the preparatory phase for Nauli).
6. Basti for lower gastrointestinal tract (GIT), especially the retum. (for Sankhapraksalana the entire GIT).

The objectives of Yoga Kriyas are to-
1. Cleanse the inner tracts namely the optical path, respiratory tract and GIT and thereby refresh the inner passages. Tardiness is removed thereby.
2. Develop an inner awareness.
3. Desensitize the possible hypersensitive reactions in the pathways.
4. Build the stamina and forbearance capacity.

Career Opportunities Across The Globe

Dec 202016

The Yoga Initiative Centre (YIC), Pune, offers students of the three-month Yoga Instructor Course an opportunity to explore this ancient knowledge bank in a contemporary style.
The curriculum introduces students to the many facets of yoga through the masters (Ramakrishna Paramhansa, Swami Vivekananda, Sharada Devi) as also its different streams (jnana yoga, raja yoga, bhakti yoga and karma yoga). It emphasises the need for yoga in today’s world and even provides an insight into the Vedic culture (through customs, traditions, articles and remnants) of the early era.
Students will get to learn pranayama techniques (anulom-vilom, bhastrika, bhramari etc) and shuddhi kriyas (kapalbhati, dhouti, neti etc). Practical classes also cover basic asanas (standing, sitting, prone and supine) and Suryanamaskar, which are explained in a step-by-step manner with the breathing pattern for maximum benefits. Also, every asana mentions the limitations for those who may/should not perform it. This becomes an imperative factor while dealing with clients who have medical issues.
The course in its entirety is a stepping stone to higher learning (MSc, PhD) and understanding in the field of yoga.
